Sustainability and Democracy through the Students’ eyes

Sustainability and Democracy

through the Students’ eyes

The 5th General Lyceum of Veria hosted students and teachers from three European countries (Estonia, Portugal, Finland) from 13/1/2019 to 18/1/2019 in the context of the European program Erasmus + KA2, entitled "Sustainable for Democracy, Democracy for Sustainability".
On Monday, January 14, 2019, the guests visited the school premises and had a first acquaintance with our country, city and school.

Then, the group as a whole was welcomed to the City Hall of Veria by the Deputy Mayor of Education. Mr. G. Sofianidis spoke to them about the history of the specific building and the multicultural nature of the town and offered them souvenirs.

Afterwards, the students and the teachers visited the Folklore Museum of Vlachs, where they were briefed by the former President and head of the research  team of the Association, Mr. D. Galaitsis, about the harmonious coexistence and cohabitation of many different populations in our region for many centuries, tasted traditional delicacies, and danced  typical traditional dances.

Then, they toured to historical  places of the town, thus becoming aware of the notion of sustainability, both in social and residential terms.

In the following days, the group participating in this Erasmus program will continue their field trips to locations of our region and their contacts with institutions and carriers that serve the concepts of Democracy and Sustainability, while working to consolidate a society of solidarity in Europe.
