Conclusions from the questionnaire survey on Democracy and Sustainability in School conducted among the students of 5th G. Lyceum of Veria

There are democratic institutions in the school (64%) and 50% of the students participate in them.
• Student councils are partly involved in decision-making (53%), but school rules are mainly decided by others (59%).
• School has no frequent contact with other democratic institutions (17%), but cooperation with parents is satisfactory (62%).
• Actions and initiatives on social issues exist but not to a large extent (53%).
• Dialogue plays a dominant role in the classroom (77%) and students express their opinion freely (78%).
• The selected courses are considered quite enough (74%), and along with the alternative learning methods (68%), show a flexible system.
• The Environmental projects meet the expectations of the students (91%), while they demand more environmental actions (58%) and the involvement of more students in them (42%).
• However, the students’ families do not participate (35%), nor are they affected (26%) by environmental education.
• Students again ask for extroversion and contact with environmental organizations (40%), since school lessons do not bring them into contact with the natural environment (29%).
• School premises are not built according to environmental criteria (36%), so students are working to make them better (69%).

Overall, the school seems to be positively valued as democratic and sustainable, but there are still deficits and weaknesses. However, there are prospects for sustainable development, as students are sensitive to these issues and are looking for a modern and open school to society.
