         “SUSTAINABILITY FOR DEMOCRACY,
DEMOCRACY FOR SUSTAINABILITY”

2d Mobility – Finland 6-10/5/2019
 "Democracy, Environment and Economy"

In view of the second mobility (Vaasa, Finland, 5/5 - 11/5/2019) of the Erasmus + KA2 program entitled “Democracy for Sustainability, Sustainability for Democracy” and for the needs of the "Democracy, Environment and Economy" subdivision, students and teachers of the 5th GEL Veria had the opportunity to be informed by experts and professionals about environmental and economic issues related to the prefecture of  Imathia.

Thus, at first, during the visit of  the member of the Ecology Group of Veria, Mr. N. Aslanoglou, to the school on 22.3.2019, they got important information about the situation in the plain of Veria and the Aliakmonas riverside area, on the way the Municipality manages the agricultural waste, and what every active citizen can do to reduce the pollution of the area.

Then, on March 28, 1919, students and teachers interviewed Mrs. A. Fillida, Quality Control Officer of the agricultural cooperative enterprise "ALMME", which has been active for decades in the region and is a role model worthy of imitation for displaying environmental sensitivity, participatory management, financial stability, and social outreach to their employees.

Finally, on 29.3.2019, the project participants visited the "Epsilon" company, were toured to its premises and informed by the managers of this newly established company, which manages organic waste and turns it into biofuel and electricity, thus contributing to the recycling process in the plain and the wider region of Imathia in an economically convenient way.

The participant students and teachers, feeling "wiser" and "more creative" after these visits, are getting ready to impart what they learned to their European classmates in Finland next month.
