Meeting the Deputy Mayor for the Environment

The Deputy Mayor for the Environment 
meets
the students of the 5th General Lyceum of Veria
Interview within the context of 
the European Programme Erasmus + KA2


      On Monday, 26/11/2018, students participating in the Erasmus + KA2 European programme "Sustainability for Democracy, Democracy for Sustainability" went to the Town Hall of Veria and interviewed the Deputy Mayor of the Environment.
      The Deputy Mayor willingly answered the students' questions about the actions of the Municipality regarding the protection of the environment. He spoke to them both about the actions that the Municipality has already taken and about the future plans in this field (composting, recycling). He focused mainly on waste management, which, as he said, "is also a top priority on the EU agenda for the environment". He spoke about the need to further raise public awareness of the urban environment and its cleanliness, and invited the students to help in this endeavor. The discussion also focused on democracy issues and highlighted the importance of the institution of the Municipal Council of Adolescents and Children, as well as the frequent communication of the citizens with the city authorities. The students learned valuable information for their research within the context of the European programme they are participating in and, as they said, this took place in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere.
     The group consisted of: Kirtsiou Emilias, Panidou Sofia, Papafetimiou Olympia, Zirou Anna, Psarras Giannis, students of the second grade. They were accompanied by the teacher-members of the Programme Pedagogical team Axouristou Chara, Liakopoulou Efi and Moschopoulos Tassos.

     On Friday, 23/11/2018, a group of students participating in the Erasmus +KA2 European programme entitled "Sustainability for Democracy, Democracy for Sustainability" visited the Centre of Education for Sustainability in Naoussa .
    There they were informed about the concept of Sustainability and its pillars (environment, society, culture, economy) as well as the transformation of the Environmental Education Centers into Sustainability Education Centers. They exchanged views with Mrs Stylianos, the person in charge of the Centre, on the implementation of the "Idea of ​​Sustainability" in everyday life, while issues such as democracy, conscious implementation of laws, consumerism and the economic dimension of sustainability were also mentioned and discussed during the meeting.
     The students, according to their own statement, left the meeting full of new ideas and motives for further reflection and fruitful dialogue.
   The group of students consisted of : Kapalika Lia, Metaxa Melina, Piperidis Panagiotis, Tzima Despina, Tsilis Konstantinos, Tzouvara Frideriki, Feizatidou Katerina, students of the 1st grade. The specific students were accompanied by the teacher-members of the Programme’s pedagogical team Chrysis Stamatis, Axouristou Chara, Liakopoulou Efi.

The SDDS Project Logo


The SDDS Project Logo

In each of the four European Schools, taking part in the Erasmus+ Project “Sustainability for Democracy, Democracy for Sustainability”, designs for the Project Logo were created by students. The two best designs from each school were internally chosen. Portugal, coordinating the process, identified each of the eight designs with letters A to H. For two weeks, the European Online Voting Process took place. Teachers, Non-teaching Staff, Students and Parents / Student Guardians, from all four schools, were able to vote.

THE DESIGNS ON THE EUROPEAN ONLINE VOTING:

Design A was created by Marten Põlluvee from Class 8A
Design E was created by Carmen Pajuste from Class 9A

Designs from Vasa stad – Borgaregatans skola, FINLAND
Design B was created by Amanda West
Design F was created by Emmi Suominen and Daniela Bäck
All students are from Class 9E

Designs from 5 General Lyceum Veroias, GREECE
Design C was created by the following students of the 2nd grade: Panidou Sofia from class B1, Della Katerina & Koukouravas Leonidas from class B2 and Tsiflidis Nikos from class B4.
Design G was created by the following students of the 1st grade: Feizatidou Katerina from class A2, Metaxa Melina from class A3 and Piperidis Panayiotis & Tsilis Konstantinos from class A4.

Design D was created by Ricardo Carvalho
Design H was created by Teresa Mendes
Both students are from Class PM2 of the Professional Course of Multimedia.

ONLINE VOTING RESULTS FOR THE SDDS PROJECT LOGO
There were 450 votes, as follows, from each country:
Estonia = 62 votes (13,8%)
Finland = 119 votes (26,4%)
Greece = 49 votes (10,9%)
Portugal = 220 votes (48,9%)

And, the Voting Results on each design were:
Design A = 32 votes (7,1%)
Design B = 59 votes (13,1%)
Design C = 100 votes (22,2%)
Design D = 22 votes (4,9%)
Design E = 24 votes (5,3%)
Design F = 53 votes (11,8%)
Design G = 113 votes (25,1%)
Design H = 47 votes (10,4%)

CONCLUSION:
Design G was the most voted one for the SDDS PROJECT LOGO.

Meeting of Teachers, Parents and Students

for the ERASMUS + KA2 Project 

entitled 

“Sustainability for Democracy, Democracy for Sustainability”

in the 5th General Lyceum of Veria


   The first meeting of the School teachers, parents and students concerning the Erasmus+ KA2 PROJECT entitled “Sustainability for Democracy, Democracy for Sustainability” was held at the School Library of the 5th General Lyceum of Veria on Wednesday, 26/9/18. The specific project will be implemented with the support of the State Scholarship Foundation (IKY) over the next two years.     The specific European project, related to Democracy and Sustainability will be carried out with three other European schools from the following countries: Escola Secundaria Jose Saramago Mafra/Portugal(Project Coordinator School), Vaasa stad – Borgaregatans skola, Vaasa/Finland and Kuusalu Keskkool, Kuusalu/Estonia.
   The participation was greater than expected. Parents and students were particularly interested in being informed about the project by the School Headmaster and the teachers in charge. Both the parents and the students showed great enthusiasm and willingness to actively take part in the implementation of the project and promised to represent worthily the 5th General Lyceum of Veria, as well as Greece to their European partners.

IN AN ERASMUS+KA2 EUROPEAN PROJECT

STRATEGIC PARTNERHIPS BETWEEN SCHOOLS


   The Erasmus+KA2 European project entitled “Sustainability for Democracy, Democracy for Sustainability” was approved for the 5th General Lyceum of Veria. Erasmus + is the European Commission Project for education, training, youth and sport, aiming at enhancing skills and employability and modernising education and training systems in all areas of lifelong learning (Higher Education, Vocational Education and Training, Adult Education, School Education, Youth Activities).
    The project is subsidized by the State Scholarship Foundation(IKY), which is the National Agency in charge of the management of the Erasmus + projects, and it will last for two years, 2018-19 and 2019-20.
  The program title is “Sustainability for Democracy, Democracy for Sustainability” and the partner schools are: 1) Escola Secundaria Jose Saramago Mafra / Portugal (Project Coordinator) , 2) Kuusalu Keskkool, Kuusalu / Estonia, 3)Vaasa stad – Borgaregatans skola, Vaasa / Finland, 4) 5th General Lyceum of Veria, Veria / Greece. 
   Through this project, the 5th General Lyceum of Veria expects its students to learn how to work together, socialize, get to know new places, and get in touch with their European peers. In general, new prospects and opportunities for personal improvement will be available for the European teachers, students and their families.
